Watching a presentation today, I saw something I haven’t seen in a while: ln(x). That’s right, it was my old buddy, the natural log. It uses that lesser irrational number, e.
Why does e get such a bad rap? Why is pi everyone’s baby? Pi is George Michael (before he went wacko) and e, Andrew Ridgeley There are movies and books about pi. In Carl Sagan’s novel Contact he proposes that pi contains a message from the universe’s creator. Why pi? Why not e? Perhaps because pi is easier to explain to a layman.
Well I think it’s time that someone stood up for e. Maybe we should start up a new organization for e. I’d call it ‘e, The Organization’. With the tagline, ‘Makes pi look like a slice of crap’. There, genius.
